TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee Criticizes Centre Over Silence on Bangladesh Issues

Kolkata, West Bengal – In a strongly worded statement, Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday criticized the Central Government for its perceived inaction and silence regarding alleged atrocities and unrest in Bangladesh, which he claimed were affecting India. Addressing the media, Banerjee said, “Everyone knows the kind of atrocity, the kind of anarchy that has been going across Bangladesh, and the silence of the Central Government is adding to the speculation.”

Highlighting his party’s stance, Banerjee emphasized that foreign affairs fall under the jurisdiction of the Union Government. “We want to see the Central Government reply or rather give a befitting reply in the language that perhaps Bangladesh understands. Who is stopping them?” he questioned.

Reassuring support from his party, he added, “From our party’s perspective, we have made our stand absolutely clear from day one that it is a Union subject. External or foreign affairs fall under the purview of the Union Government. Whatever step the Union Government takes – TMC as a party will completely support the Union Government for the safety and security of every Indian.”

He urged the Central Government to act decisively against those allegedly “torturing” Indians and “showing them their red-eye.” The TMC leader’s remarks come amid growing public concern over cross-border tensions and call for a clear strategy to safeguard Indian interests.

The statement by Banerjee underscores the political dynamics between the Centre and the state on foreign policy issues, particularly in regions with historical and geographical proximity to neighboring nations like Bangladesh.

Further developments on the matter are awaited as political and public pressure mounts on the Union Government to address the issue.
