Telangana new CM’s ‘Bihar DNA Raw’ : Why Congress facing a dual challenge in midst of this controversy

Patna/Hyderabad: Following the recent election results in five states, Congress is now focused on forming a government in Telangana. However, discussions about the statement concerning the DNA of the new Telangana CM, Revanth Reddy, have once again taken center stage. The positive developments for Congress in Telangana have caused concern within the main opposition party.

What specific comments did Union Minister Anurag Thakur make regarding Reddy’s alleged statement on Bihar’s DNA?

Union Minister Anurag Thakur, while criticizing Congress, remarked, “The person you are considering for the Chief Minister of Telangana has stated that the DNA of Telangana is superior to that of Bihar. Does Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi endorse this statement?” Since then, it has become a subject of renewed debate.

On Thursday, Union Minister of State for Home and MP from Ujiarpur, Bihar, Nityanand Rai, labeled Reddy’s alleged ‘Bihar-DNA‘ statement as an insult to Biharis. Rai argued, “Reddy’s ‘Bihar DNA’ comment exposes the mentality of Congress leaders, who are trying to divide society in the name of caste and religion. His remarks insult the people of the state, especially considering the Grand Alliance government in the state is backed by Congress, and its leaders make such statements against the people of Bihar.”

However, Congress faces a dual challenge as it not only seeks to defend its CM candidate but also aims to carve a new chapter in Telangana politics. The party is contemplating building strong coordination with alliance partners for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

What sparked the political controversy surrounding Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy?

Reports suggest that in an interview before the elections, Reddy formally stated that the current Telangana CM, K. Chandrashekhar Rao, has ‘Bihari genes,’ and his DNA is from Telangana. Reddy hinted that he could be a better choice for the state than KCR, claiming that his DNA is superior.

KCR, originally from the Kurmi caste of Bihar, had migrated to Telangana. Reddy’s statement has intensified discussions, with some labeling it as an insult to Bihar.

What objections did Union Home Minister Giriraj Singh raise, and who did he seek answers from regarding Reddy’s statement?

Union Home Minister and MP from Begusarai, Bihar, Giriraj Singh, also expressed objection to Reddy’s comments, demanding answers from Nitish Kumar and Rahul Gandhi.

Singh remarked, “The future CM of Telangana is disparaging the DNA of Bihar. What does Rahul Gandhi want? What is Nitish Kumar doing? If Nitish Kumar has an alliance with Rahul Gandhi, then Nitish Kumar will have to answer to Bihar, and Rahul Gandhi will also have to answer to Bihar.”

Anurag Thakur further asserted in favor of Biharis, stating, “This is an insult to North Indians. Congress‘ thinking is dividing the country. Congress is leaving no stone unturned to humiliate India and Indians.”
