New Delhi: Today, on November 14 is the birth anniversary of the India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. On the occasion of Nehru’s 133rd birth anniversary, PM Modi paid tribute to him. Following PM Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to Nehru.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge paid floral tributes to Pandit Nehru at the memorial Shanti Van in Delhi. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also remembered Pandit Nehru by posting a touching video depicting the life and projects and achievements of India during his tenure.
The Congress President wrote in a tweet, “Pandit Nehru, the maker of modern India. 21st India cannot be imagined without his tremendous contribution. A champion India’s social, political & economic development, despite the challenges. My humble homage to a true patriot”.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi posted a video adapted from Pandit Nehru’s speeches and scenes from the party’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra‘ and tweeted, “Who is Bharat Mata? Pedestrians will get Pandit Nehru’s book
Jairam Ramesh wrote in a tweet, “Today is the 68th day of Bharat Jodo Yatra and also the 133rd birth anniversary of Nehru. We are now in Hingoli district of Maharashtra. Incidentally, apart from English and Hindi, a good book has also come out on him in Marathi. (Mo) Distortions will continue to defame and stigmatize him but Nehru will continue to inspire. His relevance has only increased after 2014. 600 copies of Nehru’s iconic book Bharat Ek Khoj/Hindustan Ki Kahani will be distributed to the passengers today. A volunteer has brought them after driving 23 hours from Delhi at short notice.
Children’s Day is celebrated on November 14 every year as a mark of respect to the first Prime Minister of independent India.
Nehru was fondly called ‘Chacha Nehru’ and was known for emphasising the importance of giving love and affection to children.
After the death of Nehru, it was unanimously decided to celebrate his birthday as ‘Bal Diwas’ or Children’s Day in India.
Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. He breathed his last on May 27, 1964.
He became the prime minister on August 15, 1947, following an active role in the freedom struggle of the country.
