RAIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight on the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, through a tweet on Monday. The scheme aims to improve the connectivity of rural areas by constructing all-weather roads in villages across India.

The tweet was in response to a post by Arun Sao, a resident of Bilaspur, who shared pictures of newly constructed roads in his village. PM Modi’s tweet read, “The whole country is involved in the happiness of these people of Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh! Such achievements of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana are very encouraging.”

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was launched on December 25, 2000, with the objective of providing all-weather road connectivity to eligible unconnected habitations in rural areas. The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

Since its inception, PMGSY has been successful in connecting more than 1.52 lakh unconnected habitations with a population of 500 persons and above. In addition to improving the connectivity of rural areas, the scheme has also generated employment opportunities in the construction sector and facilitated the movement of goods and services.

The scheme has been widely appreciated for its impact on rural development and has received praise from various quarters. The Prime Minister’s happiness on the progress of the scheme in Bilaspur is a testament to the positive impact that PMGSY has had on the lives of rural people across the country.
