The Gujarat High Court’s observations come days after the Supreme Court directed it to examine the case ‘weekly’ to ensure inquiries identify those guilty of criminal negligence and offer adequate compensation to the families.
The Supreme Court also asked the high court to consider setting up regulatory mechanisms to ensure that such tragic incidents do not happen again.
The government has to prepare a report on the number and condition of bridges in the state and submit it to the High Court.
Apart from this, the court has also reprimanded the government for the compensation given to the dead and injured in the Morbi bridge accident.
The court said that this compensation is very less and the government should give proper compensation to the dead and injured.
