Jammu encounter: In a tragic turn of events on Friday, five army soldiers lost their lives in a fierce encounter with extremists in Rajouri, Jammu. According to the report, the encounter unfolded over a span of two days, from Wednesday to Thursday, in the Kalakot area.
The Union Territory Governor, Manoj Sinha, expressed heartfelt condolences and paid tribute to the fallen soldiers during a somber ceremony on Friday. According to the news report, two terrorist, Afghanistan trained top LeT commander along with five soldiers and two captains were killed in a 36-hour gunfight.

The two extremists involved in the encounter belonged to the notorious Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) organisation. Among them was the LeT commander Qari, identified as the mastermind behind the Dangri incident. The army’s official statement highlighted the successful elimination of these threats, accompanied by the recovery of a substantial quantity of war material from the encounter site.
The fallen soldiers have been identified as Captain M.V. Pranjal (63 RR) from Mangaluru of Karnataka, Captain Shubham Gupta (9 Para) from Agra, UP, Havildar Abdul Majid from Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, Lance Naik Sanjay Bisht from Nainital, and Paratrooper Sachin Laur from Aligarh. Their names are etched in the annals of heroism, and their sacrifice will be remembered with gratitude by a nation indebted to their selfless service.
The mortal remains of the martyred army personnel are being sent to their native places for last rites.
