Syria said Israel carried out airstrikes on targets south of the capital, including Damascus International Airport, in which five soldiers were killed.
DAMASCUS: Israel carried out an airstrike on Syria’s Damascus International airport and other part south of the capital, killing five soldiers and causing material damage, Syria’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday.
Syria’s Defense Ministry said in a statement that its air defence system intercepted missiles fired by Israel and that most of the missiles were destroyed on the way.
It is not yet confirmed whether the operation of Damascus International Airport has been disrupted by this airstrike.
However, the Israeli military said only that it does not comment on foreign reports. Israel’s attacks on Syrian airports have increased in recent days. The reason for these attacks is to stop the supplies being sent by Iran.
According to the report of the news agency Reuters, Iran supplies weapons to its allies in Syria and Lebanon, including Hezbollah.
Tehran is said to have started using air transport to supply weapons to its allies in Syria.
