Gaya: The Water Resources Department has constructed Bihar’s first and the country’s largest rubber dam in Gaya. It is the first time that the pilgrims arriving Gaya from across the country to perform the ‘pinddaan’ rituals during Pitripaksh will not have to face shortage of water in Falgu river to offer ‘tarpan’.
According to the report, Now the rubber dam of Gaya will be known as ‘Gaya Ji Dam’. CM Nitish Kumar to inaugurate on September 8, a day before fortnight-long Pitripaksh Mela beginning from Sept.9.
The rubber dam in Falgu is an ambitious project of chief minister Nitish Kumar. It is almost complete and around 1.2 meters deep water is already available in the river in a stretch of nearly 900 mtrs.
Apart from the dam, a steel food overbridge has also been constructed, which the pilgrims would use to visit Sita Kund, towards east of the Vishnupad temple.
Earlier, the pilgrims had to take a long rout to reach Sita Kund by road and perform pinddaan there.

The preparations for the inauguration of Gaya ji dam are going on in full swing. On reaching Gaya on Thursday, Water Resources and Information and Public Relations Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha inspected the biggest rubber dam on the Falgu river near the famous Vishnupad temple.
He said that this rubber dam is now ready for dedication and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate it on September 8 and dedicate it to the public. The Water Resources Minister held a meeting with the officials of the department and the district administration and reviewed the preparations for the launch and gave necessary instructions. It is being told that on the instructions of the Chief Minister, it has been named ‘Gaya Ji Dam’.
