New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressed the Parliament on the first day of the monsoon session, responding to the disturbing incident of sexual harassment that occurred in Manipur. Expressing his heartfelt sorrow, PM Modi condemned the incident, calling it shameful and an insult to the entire nation. He emphasized that the incident, which involved the harassment and humiliation of two women, had left the entire country of 1.4 billion people feeling ashamed.

During his address, PM Modi urged all Chief Ministers to take necessary steps to ensure the safety and protection of women across the country. He stressed that issues related to the respect and safety of women should be above politics, and all state governments must work together in this regard.

PM Modi made it clear that the perpetrators of this heinous act would not escape justice, reassuring the nation that they would be held accountable for their actions. He asserted that what had happened to the daughters of Manipur would never be forgiven, and the government would do everything in its power to bring the culprits to justice.

The incident in Manipur has reportedly been ongoing for almost three months, with violence continuing to plague the region. A video surfaced on social media on Wednesday night, showing a distressing scene of men stripping two women and forcing them to run on the road.

The Manipur Police have registered a case of sexual harassment in connection with the video and assured that a thorough investigation is underway to apprehend the culprits promptly.

Prior to PM Modi’s response, the opposition, particularly the Congress, had questioned the government’s silence on the issue and criticized the lack of immediate action. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage and demands for justice and stricter measures to protect women’s rights and safety.

The monsoon session of Parliament, which began on Thursday, has provided an opportunity for MPs to discuss crucial bills, including those addressing public concerns and interests. PM Modi encouraged all MPs to actively participate in these discussions and take on the responsibility of representing the voices and sorrows of the people.
