IFFCO launches liquid DAP fertilizer at less than half the price of conventional DAP

NEW DELHI: Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) has launched a new liquid Di Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer, following the successful launch of its liquid nano urea. The liquid DAP will be available at less than half the price of conventional DAP fertilizer, making it more affordable and accessible for farmers. A 500 ml bottle of IFFCO’s liquid DAP will cost Rs 600, while a 50 kg bag of conventional DAP costs Rs 1350.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has appealed to farmers to use the liquid nano urea and DAP instead of granular urea and DAP. He stated that these liquid fertilizers are more effective than their granular counterparts and lead to soil conservation and increased crop yield. Shah also highlighted the convenience in transporting the fertilizer and the reduced import bill that comes with the use of liquid fertilizers.

IFFCO’s liquid DAP fertilizer has a patent for 20 years, and the company will receive royalties for its production. The use of liquid fertilizers such as nano urea and DAP will help farmers reduce production costs by 6 to 20 percent, according to Shah. The marketing of Nano Urea began in August 2021, and by March 2023, approximately 6.3 crore bottles have been produced.

The Indian government provided a fertilizer subsidy of Rs 2.25 lakh crore in the year 2022-23. With the widespread use of liquid fertilizers, India aims to become self-sufficient in fertilizer production and increase fertilizer exports. The effect of one half-liter bottle of IFFCO’s liquid DAP on crops is equivalent to a 45 kg sack of granular urea.

Overall, the launch of IFFCO’s liquid DAP fertilizer is a significant development in the agricultural sector, offering farmers an affordable and effective alternative to conventional DAP fertilizer. The promotion and use of liquid fertilizers such as nano urea and DAP have the potential to revolutionize the agricultural sector in India and contribute to sustainable agricultural practices.
