Sisters’ jewellery passed off as ED recovery, claims Dy CM Tejashwi Yadav
PATNA: Tejashwi Yadav, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, has accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of fabricating evidence against him and his family in connection with a money laundering case linked to the railways land-for-jobs ‘scam’. Yadav alleged that the ED waited at his Delhi residence for “clearance from above” after completing their raid in just thirty minutes.
Yadav dismissed the ED’s claim of discovering proceeds of crime worth Rs 600 crore and claimed that pictures of “used jewellery” belonging to his sisters and their in-laws were taken and presented as “recovered” items. He also called for a change in the director who repeats the same script for these agencies and claimed that they were scared and trying to run away from the political battle.
The ED had on Saturday said it seized “unaccounted cash” of Rs 1 crore and “detected proceeds of crime worth Rs 600 crore” after it raided RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s family. However, Yadav has accused the agency of targeting him and his family for political reasons.
The incident highlights the ongoing political battles in Bihar, where the ruling Janata Dal (United) is in power in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Lalu Prasad Yadav, is the main opposition party in the state.
The accusations by Tejashwi Yadav against the ED raise concerns about the credibility and independence of law enforcement agencies in the country. It is crucial that investigations are conducted fairly and impartially, without any political influence or pressure, to ensure justice is served.
