Bihar Hooch Tragedy: Govt in dock on demand of compensation, Sushil Modi asked question and says- Nitish Kumar is adamant

PATNA: BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi has taken a dig at Nitish Kumar and his government on the issue of spurious liquor.

According to news report, Sushil Kumar Modi has said that BJP will go to any extent to provide compensation to the families of those who died in the Saran hooch tragedy.

Sushil Modi claimed on Sunday that the death toll due to spurious liquor in Bihar’s Chhapra has crossed 100. He also accused the government of hiding the exact number of dead.

He also said that due to the fear of the police, people are performing the last rites of their loved ones without post-mortem. On Saturday, he met the families of those who lost their near and dear ones in the spurious liquor case in Chhapra. According to the information, the number of dead is 65. This incident happened on Wednesday night. There was an uproar in the Bihar Legislative Assembly regarding this and leaders of many parties expressed the possibility of more people dying.

He said, “According to media reports, in the year 2018, CM Nitish Kumar had said that if the cause of death was alcohol, compensation would be given. He had announced a compensation of four lakh rupees to those who died due to spurious liquor. Compensation was given to the families of those who died after consuming spurious liquor in Khajurbani, then why not in Saran?”

Let us tell you that Nitish Kumar has said two days ago that no compensation will be given to those (families) who die after drinking alcohol.

Kushwaha, a key political aide of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, said the government cannot support those involved in illegal activities. He asked reporters that if someone is making bombs illegally and is killed in the process, does it become a case of compensation from the government?

BJP is besieging Nitish Kumar on this issue.

Sushil Kumar Modi has even said, “According to the Excise and Provision Act, the Nitish Kumar government will have to pay compensation to the victims of the Saran hooch tragedy. And BJP will go to any extent for these families.

Nitish is unnecessarily adamant: Sushil Modi

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi has accused Nitish of being adamant on his unnecessary stubbornness. He said that provision was made in the prohibition law for compensation to the victims of liquor tragedy. Citing a section of the Bihar Excise Act of 2016 related to prohibition, Sushil Modi claimed that an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh could be considered for the kin of those who died after consuming suspected spurious liquor.
