Bihar: Amid increase Covid-19 Cases, Mock drill start for preparedness at Patna IGIMS Hospital

65 people test positive for Covid-19 in Bihar, including a doctor and residents from other districts

PATNA: In Bihar, a mock drill over Covid-19 preparedness is currently underway at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) Hospital in Patna. The drill is aimed at testing the hospital’s readiness to handle a surge in Covid-19 cases, as the state witnesses a rapid increase in infections.

The mock drill, which started on April 9th, is being conducted by the IGIMS administration with the help of the State Health Department. The exercise is being carried out in multiple phases to simulate various scenarios, such as an increase in the number of Covid-19 patients, shortage of oxygen and medical supplies, and emergency response protocols.

Earlier, Union Health Minister Mansuk Mandaviya had asked state health ministers to visit hospitals and oversee the mock drills on April 10 and 11. Before that on April 8 and 9, the ministers were asked to review the preparedness with district administrations and health officials.

In the virtual meeting held on April 7, the Health Minister emphasised to state health ministers, principal and additional chief secretaries the need to identify emergency hotspots by monitoring trends such as influenza-like illness and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) cases, and to ramp up testing and vaccination to ensure the readiness of hospital infrastructure. States and Union Territories were asked to increase the rate of testing sharply.

The drill involves a team of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers, who are required to follow strict Covid-19 protocols while treating patients. The hospital has set up special wards for Covid-19 patients, equipped with oxygen cylinders, ventilators, and other medical equipment.

According to the hospital administration, the mock drill is crucial in ensuring that the hospital is fully prepared to handle a surge in Covid-19 cases. The exercise will help the hospital identify any gaps in its preparedness, and take corrective measures to address them.

however, The number of corona infected has started increasing once again in the state. On Sunday, 65 people were screened at PMCH and reports of six people including a doctor have come positive. At the same time, according to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, in the investigation of 4826 people, a total of 14 reports have come positive. Of these, 10 are residents of Patna and four from other districts.

With this, the total number of patients under treatment has increased to 78 in the district. Of these, there are 72 patients from Patna, who are in home isolation. One in six patients from other districts are admitted. Out of 65 reported positive in PMCH, four including one doctor are residents of Vaishali admitted in PMCH and two in IGIC.
